I am considering taking up the flute. Does anyone here play? How much should I expect to pay for one? Is it better to rent or to buy? Are there good prices for them online?

And anything else you can think of! I have piano training and would like to add a woodwind. The flute seems practical because I can carry it around easier than a whole lot of other instruments. I also love how it sounds.

Hey! I'm a flute player! smile I've been playing for about 5 years. I play the piano too. smile I've been playing it for about 11 years. Flute is a good instrument to pick up. It's one of the easier instruments, and it's in C, which saves you a lot of annoying transposing. Prices vary from maker to maker. Geminheart is the best maker in my opinion. Sorry, I'm sure I spelled that wrong. Go to http://www.fluteworld.com. They have instruments, music, basiclly everything flute. Good luck!!
