I have been looking for a new acoustic guitar for about a month or two because my Fender has a dreafully high action that is almost lethal to play. I really want to get a gypsy guitar since I have recently started listening to Django Reinhardt. Unfortunately, Selmer does not seem to make guitars these days, as they are busy taking over the saxophone business. I have found a number of Selmer imitations, and some of them are quite nice. At the moment, I have my eye on two, both made by Gitane--the DG-250M and the D-500, which both sound very good and have good actions. Anyone have an opinion as to which is better? Or a suggestion to a possibly better company?

P.S. I am also planning on getting an upright bass, being more of a bassist than I am a soprano guitarist. What is the average price of a genuine double bass?

Hi N.R.:

Before you decide to get a new guitar, take your Fender to a competent guitar repairman and have him lower the action on your Fender.

You may save yourself a bunch of bucks, plus the frustration of having to look for a new guitar.

But,find out first how much it will cost to have the action lowered.

It's worth a try.

Thanks hippolips,

The action is not the only problem, but it is the biggest. I will probably have it lowered sometime anyways. However, the shape of my Fender does not quite fit me, as it is abnormally big, and I really need an acoustic that can go a few frets higher.
