I just got an old acoustic guitar as a gift, and I'm really excited about learning to play. But the thing is, guitar lessons aren't exactly cheap, so unless one is a musical genous, do youthink it would be impossible forthem to teach themselvs(out of lets saz How To Plaz Guitar for Dummies or something)? Thanks. Smile

You might like to try an online lesson for beginners. There is a fee but I think it's cheap.

website

By the way, if you are in the market for a guitar, or just want to window shop click on the soundboard banner on this site. Their guitars are awesome.

This may help...my husband recently bought a banjo (I know...couldn't talk him out of it Smile) anyway, he bought a book called "You Can Teach Yourself Banjo" by Mel Bay. I remember that the music store had copies for lots of instruments, probably there is one for guitar also. It is a really nice book and it came with a DVD so you can see what you're susposed to be doing. The guy at the store said it was excellent series. You might want to look for it. Good Luck!

There is a wealth of free guitar information available on the internet.Just go to your favorite browser[Google,Jeeves, etc.] and enter the words Rock and Roll Guitar,or Country Guitar or Jazz Guitar,or whatever is your music preference. You will have virtually over 1,800 guitar sites to choose from.If you have a printer with your computer, you can then download and copy anything that you find.
Or...go to your nearest music store to either purchase a good Guitar book or arrange to take some lessons.
The best book that I've ever found is "Chords & Progressions for Jazz & Popular Guitar" by Arnie Berle, published by Amsco Publications, cost is $17.95. Cool Cool Cool
