I feel really bad. I forgot my moms birthday, To make it worse I forgot it by 4 days... What's the best way to make it up? I live 400 miles away from her so I can't take her out to dinner or anything. ********************************************************8 09-13-03, 06:36 PM dogspit I did this last year, I felt like such a total schmuck !
1) Apologize profusely 2) Have one dozen red roses delivered to Mom. 3) Repeat step 1 as necessary.
09-13-03, 06:44 PM notinmyname Gee Bill doesn't your mom remember to hint about her birthday in advance? Mine does, I do it myself. She was sleeping on the mom job.
I almost never remember my own aniversary, until a day or two later. But I don't blame my husband when he forgets it either. Maybe I should demand roses! That'd work.
Nah, send her roses, call her more often this year. Let her know you're doing well.
09-13-03, 06:48 PM Jelp01 Follow all of Dogspit's suggestions.....and whenever you see your mom next, THEN take her out for a nice dinner.
09-13-03, 07:42 PM MrsS Have flowers delivered...or, if she's "that sort" have pizza or Chinese take out delivered...Send a pretty or funny card NOW!!! Sometime in the next month or two...send a nice card "just because"....and do a little more fussing than usual during the holiday season....you'll be forgiven until May....just be sure to mark Mother's Day on the calenderWink
09-13-03, 07:57 PM honilov Apologize, and be honest, tell her you forgot without making any other kind of excuses. I'm sure she'll understand, and not think hard of you. It could happen to anyone. Smile
09-13-03, 09:10 PM gizmogram Red Face OMG the year I was 22 or so I forgot my mom's birthday...we were living with her at the time because my dad had passed away the previous year. I don't know how I forgot it, I just did. And by the end of the night, she was in tears and I had no clue. There was NO making it up to her, but I've made a point NEVER EVER to forget it again!
Oh, and btw? Now she gives me a hard time for sending her flowers every year "Don't you be spending all that on me".....jeez. Damned if you do, damned if you don't Big Grin
09-13-03, 11:46 PM MommyTimesTwo My mom wouldn't care if one of us forgot her birthday. She's going to be 50 in two years and wants to forget she has birthdays at all Wink
09-14-03, 02:33 AM SeattleRon never once have i forgot my moms birthday. if i did, my mom would kill me,lol.
09-14-03, 07:16 AM Jelp01 Gizmo, I know what you mean. Every time I get her a card, the kind with all sorts of complimentary things on it, my mom says she doesn't recognize who the card is talking about and doesn't deserve one that praises her like that. So one time I told her that if I found a birthday card that said "Happy Birthday, you old bat!" on it, I'd give it to her. For some reason, she didn't like that idea either. There's no pleasing some people. Roll Eyes Big Grin
09-14-03, 08:04 AM clarebear I would call her and say,"Mom, did you get your present yet? You didn't call me." When she says no tell her she should have gotten it already. Roll Eyes Ask how her birthday was. Chat for a little while. Talk bad about the stupid post office. Mad Rush out , buy her a gift and send it out PRONTO! Red Face
09-14-03, 10:34 AM gizmogram Oh but Clare! My mom would instantly notice the postmark and then I'd be in even more trouble! Hmmmm....maybe I could bribe a postal worker to put the wrong date on it? Or smudge it beyond recognition? Roll Eyes
09-14-03, 11:13 AM billmasters Thanks everyone, I never would have thought of ordering chinese food for her. She's happy now.
09-14-03, 02:15 PM MrsS I once arranged a take-out delivery across three state lines when I had accidentally, but deeply, wounded a friendship.....it did not mend the rift, but got us talking again!
