Do you think it’s immoral to not want to sleep with only one person for most of your life? *****************************************************
11-12-04, 05:42 PM juanruiz A couple of things: do you really mean sleep or have intimate relations? Do you mean acting on the "not wanting" or just thinking about it? In regard to the latter, Christianity already condemns you if you even think about another woman in a sexual way.
11-12-04, 07:35 PM jusork I mean actual intimate relationships and acting on them. Does Christianity actually condemn just thinking about sex with someone who you aren't married to? Wow, I thought it was just acting on it. Yeah, and I'm asking with religion more to the side if possible.
And perhaps also I should say unethical instead of immoral. Immoral's seems to make it too high value-wise.

I can't speak for Christianity in general, but Catholocism sure does. Under the 6th and 9th commandments, it forbids lust, temptation, condoms, birth control, homosexuality, masturbation, divorce, impure thoughts and desires, and giving a glance at thy neighbor's wife. Looks like I'm heading for the Other place. Most catholics, however, don't pay any attention to these dictates, and neither due the priests (except the hypocrites). But officially, the position of the Catholic Church will never change. But Three in a bed? Well, that's a little too much now, I'd never confess that one to Father McKenzie, it was bad enough doing 10 Hail Mary's, 10 Our Father's, and 1 Glory Be just for masturbating at the ripe old age of 12.

From the Sermon On The Mount
"Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart."
The point of this and surrounding passages is to explain the difficulty of righteousness.
By the way, this is the passage to which Jimmy Carter referred in his interview with Playboy.
11-13-04, 07:22 AM gerry Jimmy and Bill are my two favorite presidents of all time, not for what they accomplished, but for who they are. Is that the time when Jimmy confessed about 'undressing another woman with his eyes'? Too bad Bill wasn't around to console him, or at least pass him a cigar.
11-13-04, 08:55 AM coldfuse Carter's words from the November 1976 Playboy:
"Because I'm just human and I'm tempted and Christ set some almost impossible standards for us. The Bible says, "Thou shalt not commit adultery." Christ said, I tell you that anyone who looks on a woman with lust has in his heart already committed adultery. I've looked on a lot of women with lust. I've committed adultery in my heart many times.... This is something that God recognizes, that I will do and have done, and God forgives me for it."

Are you talking marriage or sleeping? In either case, you are too young to worry about the rest of your life. Finish college, spend five years working and by then you might have figured out what is best for you.
11-13-04, 02:12 PM jusork The president in Playboy? Wow, I bet that caused a rucus. Everything I've heard about Jimmy just makes me more proud to be from Georgia.
Edge, talking about sleeping with many (and on purpose.)

And well you should be. Mr. Carter is about as fine a human being as one could ever hope to be.
11-14-04, 01:49 AM DvdGStwrt Man is not programed for monogamy. It is not a viable survival trait in our species. Had our ancestors been strictly one mate wonders we wouldn't be here today.
We are "programed" to think in terms of life long pair bonding. We are not "bred" for that. Men are more prone to wander because they are biologically designed for roaming. Men can have sex all the time and produce off spring - women have to take a time out and work on producing an offspring. It takes about a year before a woman can have another conception. Even the design of the penis is such to create a suction to remove a previous males semen - hinting at the fact that our ancestors would "gang mate" with females. Some humor is that men fall asleep right after sex so the woman has time to get awayWink
In reality men are designed to "service" several females efficiently.
Females on the other hand become dependent (in part) upon men during the pregnancy and for the first few years of the babies life.
Thus we are designed for long time partnering - for the sake of the off spring - not for 18 years, but an early 13 - 14 years (when sexual maturity would normal mark adult in a species) Sooner when we consider that a child of ten, nine or eight can be a help mate in the gathering and even can hunt. This is not a life long situation.
Love, the emotion that causes relationships to bloom is fleeting - well at least the passion part. It is normal for the passion part to last for a short time, followed by a different form of love the fact that we can fall in love with others in that passionate way hints at the small fact that we are designed for multiple partners through our lives. In marriages usually about the time the hot passion begins to fade, offspring #1 is on the way. Crude but true, passionate love creates a state of more sex which in turn ups the ante that the couple will be parents.
Based upon these factors and other biological factors I have to say that having more than one partner in life is not only normal but is what we are designed for.
We do, however, make a choice to stick with one person - about 50% of those formal vows fail, that means that 50% of them do work.
