A close friend of mine, her grandfather passed away last night. I know she was very close to her grandfather. I'm going to be seeing her tonight. Now in a normal situation, I would offer her condolences when I see her. But the reason I'm seeing her tonight is because she's getting married tonight and I'm going to her wedding. Should I offer her condolences in addition to the mazal tov, or would it be out of place to offer the bride condolences at her wedding?

Offer condolences, Darling one.
Something like "I'm so sorry for your loss, especially at such a happy time."
Yes, it is awkward, but to ignore the death of a family member would be... well, it would seem uncaring, especially since the two of you are close.

Thanks. I want her to see that I care for her, but on the other hand I was afraid offering her condolences would be a sorta adding sadness to a happy situation. I'm off to the wedding now...

I know I’m late in my response, but something along the lines of “just let me know if I can do anything” with a meaningful look might be acceptable as well. Rather than bring up the loss directly, just let her know that you care and are there for her.

Leppi...I'm sorry to also be late replying Frown

I also would have said to offer condolences even while you were offering congratulations on her wedding.

I'm sure the wedding was planned long before, and the death of her grandfather the night before was probably very hard for her. Her day would be bittersweet.

I hope it was a happy celebration, including a toast to the grandfather Frown

While all the responses here are excellent ones, I am especially touched by Ron's last comment. Ron, you continue to amaze me.
