All right you Americans, particularly any Italian Americans out there, please translate this:
"When the stars make you drool Just like-a pasta fazool That's amore "
In East Anglia we know little of foreign languages (apart from the versions of English we speak locally ) so Radio Cambridgeshire wants to know , as do I, what on Earth is 'pasta fazool' ?
The lyrics are from 'That's Amore' and were written by Dean Martin. Whether he was sober or not when he hit upon the rhyme, who knows? Perhaps he invented the word 'fazool'. Any ideas?
It's an Italian dish, pasta with cannellini beans. I'm not sure of the spelling, either. It's a soupy dish, and I can make a good one! But we call it something a little less tasteless at home-pasta fangool, if you catch my drift.
