Both are commonly heard, though I prefer Democratic Party, myself. The usage Democrat Party is more commonly heard from its political enemies, and it is commonly pronounced in a distinctly sneering tone of voice. RMN was fond of using in that way. A member of the Democratic Party is a Democrat. That is different from a democrat, notice, which refers to any person who is a believer in the principles of a democratic form of government. Most Democrats are also democrats in this sense. Even liberal Democrats like me.
