I'm both a singer and an actor and am constantly being told to imprve my Diction. So i try to make my words clearer. But my brother (Who knows nothing at all about the arts- so i don't know why i listened) tells me that speaking clearly is called elocution.
What's the difference between diction and elocution? I thought diction might just be a dramatic term. But I don't mind being corrected, if anyone knows the truth.

Basically...

elocution: style or art of public speaking.

diction: clarity of speech and correct and appropriate use of words.

So both apply. Better elocution will keep your audience interested in what you are saying and better diction will allow your audience to clearly understand what you are saying.

Diction has more to do with clarity (verbal/enunciation) whereas elocution refers to the delivery (gestural or expressive vocalization)

Having both would be perfect...
