This is my own composition; I hope you enjoy reading it.

The Written Word

Let me walk you through the reading room,
Where many books reside
Where imagination, doubt and doom,
Are written there inside.

A thirst for knowledge you will find
In every page you roam
There’s learning here of every kind
In sentence and in poem.

Take down a book and delve inside,
And see what you may find
Within these words, no meanings hide,
Except the literal kind.

For Dickens, Hardy, Orwell and friends,
They too began this way.
No matter whether time transcends,
Just read some more each day.

Lift up a book, at any time,
Let your mind be taken in,
By stories, set in words sublime,
Of people, kith and kin.

When weather it turns cold and damp
There’s nothing much to do,
But, sit awhile beside your lamp,
A book will see you through.

To praise the written word if I may,
For solitary hours we spend
To live and learn from day to day,
A book will be your friend.
