I've been wondering why so many people spell bologna as baloney. I realize now it's spelled either way but I was just wondering if it might be a cultural thing. I learned it as bologna and had never seen it spelled different until I seen it here several times.

"Oscar Mayer has a way with B-O-L-O-G-N-A"

You would think the commercial jingle would have put the issue to rest!

B-O-L-O-G-N-A is lunchmeat and rhymes with 'a way'. "Baloney" is a pejorative description of the other fellow's opinion.
