I have been seeing the word BLOG on a lot of sites lately. I don't recall ever seeing it before. Where did this word come from and how long has it been around?

BLOG stands for "weB LOG" and basically it's a website that is updated frequently such as personal journals or sites like this one where people can make daily posts. You can even set up "blogs" on your Yahoo home page now to include daily news updates.

Peter Merholz lays claim to being the inventor of the word. Apparently he came up with it in 1999 when he posted it in a sidebar on his homepage. But it didn't reach popularity until 2002
