Everytime I GO INTO MY PICTURES FOLDER and view images held there, As soon as i have closed the window to return to desktop, The computer freezes, the only way out of it is to open the task manager window and logoff then login again.
This only occurs with image files, and as long as i do not open the pics folder everything runs ok.

My first guess is that one of the image files held in the My Pictures folder is damaged or corrupted. That would cause the system to perform in unusual ways.
Another possibly is the viewer program that is used to view the images (which may be Windows itself) is damaged.
The first step I would recommend is to delete all files in the Temporary Internet Cache. This is so if the problem is with a specific image file, it will be deleted. To do this:
1. Open Internet Explorer Web Browser 2. Click Tools 3. Click Internet Options 4. Click "Delete Files" 5. OK the removal of Offline Content 6. Delete the Cookies, too (note, you will need to log into any Website where you've used the "Remember Me" option. If you can't remember your username/password, don't delete the cookies at this point). 7. When complete, OK the Internet Options window and try to open your My Pictures folder again. If the problem still occurs, read the following:
Some diagnostic steps:
1. Open the My Pictures folder, then close it without accessing any of the image files. If the computer locks up, then we will know the problem is with the folder itself.
2. If step one did not cause a lockup, open the folder again and open one of the images. Then close the image and close the My Pictures folder. If that did not cause a lockup try another picture and so forth, each time close the image, then the folder.
3. If you have a lot of images, making this step-by-step process tedious, you can copy/cut the images into another folder in groups. Then open each new folder and a sampling of the images to see if the computer will lockup. If so, you will know that the damaged image is within that group of images and you can concentrate on them.
4. I also suggest using different image programs to see if the computer doesn't lockup with another program. One you can download for free and that I highly recommend is IrfanView. You can download this at: http://www.irfanview.com
Note: You can select what program you wish to use to open an image by right-clicking on the image file and selecting "Open With" from the menu. You will see some programs that are available. You can see other programs by selecting the "Choose Program" option on the right-click menu. Once there, you can selet any of the graphic programs (including Web browsers like Internet Explorer). One option that you will have is "paint".
