I finally found a way to make an MPEG file from my video tape. And TMPGEnc made my JPEGs finally right this time. No blancks.

The only problem is I have 58,685 pictures now. Is there any program out there that wil allow me to tick a few and save them while deleting the rest? Or some way to narrow 58,685 to 2 or 300?

You can use Explorer in WindowsXP to sift through the images.

Open the folder with the JPEG stills. If you don't see thumbnails, right-click somewhere (not on a file) and click View > Thumbnails.
Now Explorer will show thumbnails of all of the images.

Select those you want to keep by holding down the Control (Ctrl) key and clicking them.
Open another explorer window to a new folder and just drag and drop the ones you want to keep into the new folder.
(you can repeat this multiple times if you like)

In the folder with the ~50,000 images still in it, press Ctrl-A and press the delete key. After this you may want to empty your recycle bin.

Nifty idea: Once you have your pictures sorted, download Microsoft's Wallpaper Changer Powertoy and you can see shots from your video on your desktop like a slideshow.
