If i have several screens open my computer drags a bit and on rare occasions it will freeze until i close out of programs.

i have issues where if i close a program the screen will stay with another picture over it

for instance if i have outlook open and internet explorer and i close one the other will have the screen of the other for a second like the picture is lagging behind.

i have 512 of RD ram and a 64mb video card

1.6 gb processor

Does this sound like a video card issue?

i tested my memory with memtest86 and it passed 100%

if there a way to test a video card and if its maxing out?

sometimes my computer will get really slow and the task manager shows explorer at 95-100% of the computer usage and it takes a while to go down again. I have a screen shot of it if anyone needs to see it

let me know if you have any suggestions

It could be something like your virtual memory settings are set to Manual or your Tempfile cache is approaching maximum capacity or is also set at a low setting?
Have you done a defrag or a clearout of your Hard drive with an Disk optimiser program like Crap Cleaner free from www.ccleaner.com this will (after defragging immediatly afterwards) give your computer a speed boost Smile Then repost and we'll check if your other settings need attention OK?
With you saying your resources are running at under 100% I'm guessing you are running XP and that indicates there are too many things running at Startup (Might need to bring somebody else in on this?)
BTW Welcome to Answerpool Smile
OH I forgot If your Graphics card is at its Limit you'll see Pictures come up very slow and thats about it? Smile

I was on another forum (where copying is not allowed Mad) and somebody posted almost the same things as yourself and he found the Problem it was the Firefox browser that was at the root of the Issue! So he reverted back to Internet Explorer(Uninstalled FireFox) and the Speed came back
I can only think of 1 other solution and that is to add another Stick of RAM (You aren't running it at 256 MB?) Roll Eyes 512MB should be the Minimum on any XP machine
Might have a RAM failure? (worth investigating in System Information)type msinfo32.exe in the Run box on the Start menu then look towards the bottom of the right hand window on the New window for how much RAM and other Memory is being used Smile That way you may see if the RAM chip has expired? (I Had a 512 MB stick go on me without warning Frown)
I am running 1024 MB RAM and doesn't waver from 100% resources in the Task Manager

You need to reset your Firefox default settings.

Go to Run and type in:

firefox.exe -profilemanager

Click on the opposite user shown. (there should be 2 to choose from) then click ok

This should restore your settings and get your bookmarks back.

Plan B time...
Might work Wink
Might Not Frown
Won't lose anything
Right click on My Computer Select Properties
then the Advanced tab on next window
Next hit the settings button in the Performance box...
If its greyed out you'll need Admin status to proceed
If you can get past here press the advanced Tab on the next page
Now this is where the fun starts
I'll give you the same settings as myself
in the top 2 boxes is the Program setting selected? This is the Default settings
And now the Virtual memory Box this also called the Paging file or Virtual RAM
There should be a number in the box of at least 1000MB?(varies from machine to machine ) Mine is 2400 MB
Less than 1000MB is asking for trouble Mad
Hit the change Button in the Box
and check the next page
Check that the System managed size setting is selected nothing else! both other settings are for manual setups (not worth it unless..) then press the Set button
Last thing at the foot of the page is the setup
numbers to your computer
If you do have to revert to a manual set size the middle number is the number you'll have to input into the initial size box on the page and in the other box for maximum size I suggest a figure of double the first number?
Press the Set button then the OK button to close the page. Then do a reset to see if there is any improvement?
Still no improvement, then the Internet cache size wants adjustment on Internet Explorer options page
In the Temporary Internet Settings box
click the settings button and on the next page
select automatically (for page updates)
then on the slide bar move it to 2 notches from the left and have a reading of about 1000 to 1100 MB in the small window there is a fine adjustment buttons on the window
Any bigger or less of a setting can make your pages appear jerky /slow or not at all Red Face (speaking through experience) Wink
Press the Apply then the OK buttons to save the settings and close the page.
Hows that?
PS You can do the 2nd settings regardless of Windows XP Admin settings Wink

keep in mind its not really the internet pages that are slow

its the windows explorer pages that can bog down

OK go back to the setting page and change the setting from the Custom to the System managed setting beneath (you can return to your old settings later if it doesn't work) The custom settings are retained though the box will be greyed out
BTW The Windows Explorer pages (and main Windows)display speed can be due to this virtual cache being incorrectly set not the Internet Explorer Cache setting (That concerns the Temp files & History Files lists)
Does that clarify things? Wink

It may help to reboot your computer. Did you try this yet?

I have been running Mozilla for over a year and have had similar problems in the past. This page will explain better about changing/restoring your user file. I have 2 user profiles set up and it sometimes reverts to the old one.I'm not creating a new one, I'm restoring the old one.
This should have popped up on your screen

I just scroll to the opposite user profile and start firefox. You do need to have all of your programs closed to do this.

More on managing Mozilla profiles
