All of a sudden my Photoshop 6.0 is working very slowly. Example: I draw a line and it doesn't appear for several seconds.

I have defragged & deleted temp files, etc. But it made no difference. frown

The problem has persisted for a week or two, with lots of reboots.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

I am not a photoshop user but Have you downloaded all the latest updates.
It sounds like you have a lack of memory problem.

I would agree, it sounds like memory. How many "undo" levels have you set? For each level, the programme stores the whole image, uncompressed. If it's a large image, this can easily take up all your memory, meaning that every action has to be written to disc memory. I normally have "undo" set to 1, remembering to do "save as file a ... save as file b ..." every so often in case I have to backtrack.

Photoshop handles a lot of different file types. Are you using images other than jpg's? Some that I've used made the difference between a 56k-byte image and a 2m-byte image for the same size pic. Get out of photoshop, open the file your pics are in and just view your pic files with the "detail" selection under the "view" dropdown menu to compare file sizes.

You may also want to consider putting in more RAM sticks to beef up your application speed.
