Hi, My Compaq is acting up on a game called DXBall, it's jerky. I read the log on it and it says to get a 3d accelerator driver. I went into dxdiag and it says the directx 3d acceleration is not available, its gray. Does this mean I have to get a graphic card? I have updated the directx to version 8.01. I have win 98 by the way.

It is very likely that the computer uses onboard video with little or no 3D capability. If the machine does not have an AGP slot, install a PCI videocard based on the Geforce2 MX-400, such as PowerColor's PowerGENE CMX6P.

OK HERE IT IS
right click on your screen; it pulls up display properties
go to settings
go to advanced
go to troubleshooting tab
move the hardware acceleration all the way to the right; it will say that all accelerations are enabled.

just for the hell of it enable the write combining too. I don't know if it controls anything and I don't care to check. Your computer will have to restart. Just let it.
