I'm working with Win98,2nd.ed. [paint program]

The problem: Why can't I change a pictures format to *.jpeg ?

My info is coming from http://www.masteryourcomputer.com/articles/?i=818&c=3

I open the picture in 'paint'. Someone better tell me the correct way to open a picture in 'paint' -= cause I seem to have found two methods.

I single click on [left mouse]; single click on .....in the window that appears, I go to the "save as type" - click the 'down arrow' ....BUT

In my drop down menu I only have 4 choices....and the choices are still *.bitmap

Someone help! There must be an answer out there somewhere.

Thanx, Kleo 8^)

The ability to use the .jpg format in Paint depends upon other Microsoft installed software. You will need either Microsoft Word or Microsoft Picture It! installed on your system.

There may be other MS products that give you the .jpg filters Paint needs, but the two mentioned above are the only ones I know about.

Thank Dwight... It's amazing how much info on Google is junk and no help at all.

The good stuff comes from the AnswerPool guys.

I finally went into Irfan and found where and how to change the format from one system to another, i.e. *.doc; bitmat into Jpeg
