Hi All, (Again)
I have a problem that is puzzling me (Not hard, I know). I have a friend who has a CD with pictures on it in JPG format and it is supposed to autoplay, but doesn’t. When I try to explore it, it keeps telling to insert a disk into the drive. Auto insert notification is enabled. I tried the disk in an old computer I have and it works perfectly. I also tried some photos I had burned myself in JPEG format and I could see them in explore and open them. Both her computer and the old one I have, have the same OS (Win 98) and they both have to use Internet Explorer to open photos as there is no other programme to do it on either computer (except with autoplay on this CD as it has its’ own programme to display the photos). What am I missing, or have any of you come up against this before?? I have run out of ideas…
BTW, are JPG and JPEG the same?

Mickzer.

I'll leave the main portion of your question for our resident computer expert Dwight to answer. But in the meantime I can answer your last question. JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) is the name of the graphic image file and ".jpg" is the file suffix or "extention" name of the same file. So, they are the same thing.

You can also download / install a great free graphics program that has a "slide show" capability. It is available here: http://irfanview.com/

Click here to see a step-by-step download/install tutorial.

Thanks, Georgia85, Kwll and Dwight,

I have tried all your ideas except yours Dwight, the main reason being that the CD has its own "slide show" capabilities and this "should" work as it works on the old(75Mhz) computer. What I can't figure out is why it works on the old one and not on the old one? I have checked as many settings as I can and I can't see any differences between them. Once again, thanks to you all for your help and if you can think of anything else, let me know.TIA.

mickzer, well if it wasn't one of those it may have something to do with the date of the different drivers between the machines. You can look at this page as well since it contains other things to look for. Autorun
