Sometimes when I try to "insert" a picture into my e-mail it will work, and sometimes it stays on "attach" no matter what I do. I use ME and MSN 8. Anyone know what's going on?

Also, what's "unicode?"

thank you in advance.

Catty, I can't insert mine in the message either. It stays on attached. It only started since I uppgraded to IE6. The crazy thing about mine, whenever the other person receive the attachment, they receive it twice. It was too complicated to ask here so I just tell the person that they are gonna get it twice. I'm using Outlook Express.

You might check your security settings. If it is set to resticted, that may be causing this problem.

In Outlook Express: Tools/Options/Security tab.

I'm not familar with MSN 8.

Definition - unicode

Unicode (more at the site linked above)

A standard for representing characters as integers. Unlike ASCII, which uses 7 bits for each character, Unicode uses 16 bits, which means that it can represent more than 65,000 unique characters. This is a bit of overkill for English and Western-European languages, but it is necessary for some other languages, such as Greek, Chinese and Japanese. Many analysts believe that as the software industry becomes increasingly global, Unicode will eventually supplant ASCII as the standard character coding format.

Thank you, Dwight, I will do that.

Occasionally when I insert a picture a window comes up saying if I send as is, some of the (graphics?) will not transfer, and giving me several choices of how to send it, including unicode. I always choose that but have no idea if it involves the picture or not.

One way you can "test" how well the picture is transferring is to send the message to yourself and see the result.

When you see this message next time, put in your own address in the Cc line and send a copy to yourself.

Thank you, Dwight. I have surely done that. Whenever the software allows me to insert a picture it comes back to me working fine. whenever I send it as an attachment it comes out fine. the problem is half the time it won't let me choose between "send as attachment" and "insert into email." It remains stuck on "attach."

Hope that clears things up.

One thought that occurs to me is that the file type of the image may be something that is not recognized as one that can be inserted.

In Outlook Express (not sure about MSN 8) these file types are limited to .gif, .jpg (.jpeg), .bmp, wmf, .xbm and .art. If the image type is something different, then perhaps it has to go as an attachment.

I was wondering about this myself, but at the time I choose whether to "insert" or "attach," I haven't selected the picture yet. It then occurred to me that perhaps the picture must be chosen first. But that did nothing. Finally I decided that it must be something about the way the recipient has their settings set - could that be it?
