In this link, pentatonic scale there are 2 bars of music. Can these be copied in any other way other than "save to pictures"? If I save them to pictures and have to print from there, how can this music be enlarged? Is there a way to get this to Wordpad?

Is there any way to COPY in Adobe other than the icon at the top left? Is there a way to ENLARGE in Adobe?

Well if you saved the bars of music as a picture file it probably saved it to Photo Editor and you can change the size by going to the menu and clicking Image > Resize...

Or you can right click on the bars of music and select "copy" then open whatever application you want...I tried it with Word...and paste. Then you can resize by clicking on the graphic and dragging the handles...or by using menu features.

It can be done - I'm doing it right now...if you still are having problems I can save it and e-mail it to you.

Thanks Georgia, it's a general question as I have a lot of that type of item to print. I have XPPro. I was not specific enough in my first question. I only want to copy and enlarge the bars of music. They will not highlight. They will save to "my pictures".

I didn't find anything in Photo to enlarge the size except by dragging it and it got out of scale and was too much fuss. When I clicked on Edit, it sent me to Paint. I can't find Image/resize. I can't use my Kodak software with these images as it doesn't recognize them as a picture and I can't get them to load into the program. Guess I have lots to learn here.

Maybe I figured it out. I finally went to "my pictures" and chose to open it with the IrfanView (thanks Dwight!). This will work but there must be an easier way.

NQD - I was able to save just the bars of music to Word and enlarge it from there. Just click on the item from the web page and then right click and copy. I promise you...it works!

Is this what you meant, NQD?

Music image, enlarged.

Dwight

P.S. I'm always finding out things about the IrfanView program that I like. I finally figured out how to add text to an image. I had just assumed it wouldn't do that.

Yes, Dwight, that is what I had in mind. I have a lot of similar things to print.

Georgia...I cannot get that music to copy. I clicked on it, then right clicked and then had nothing there to paste. Obviously I am doing something wrong.

What about Adobe? I can't figure out how to copy and paste similar items in Adobe.

What I did is use the *"Print Screen" key and then paste the image into Paint. I cropped the image to just the music bars. Then I saved the result, and opened it in IrfanView and used that program to enlarge the image. I kept the file format in .bmp in order to retain image quality.

Hope this helps!

Dwight

* The "Print Scrn" key is located to the right of the F12 key on your keyboard. It copies what is showing on your screen to your clipboard. This page explains how to use this function.

Hi nerdqueendeluxe.

Dwight's Print Screen suggestion is the ticket but Dwight, why not paste directly into Irfanview instead of Paint?

I love Irfanview and I do this ALL the time.

First, make a shortcut for Irfanview: Click Start, Programs (or All Programs) go to the Irfanview folder and right-click the Irfanview icon - that one with the little squashed red bug thingie on it. Click Properties. Click beside the word None in the Shortcut key field and type the letter i. The word None will change to Ctrl+Alt+I. Click Apply and OK.

Here's the whole series of shortcuts I use to do exactly what you are trying to achieve. My instructions always look long and detailed but that's because I write a newspaper column for computer novices and I never know how much experience my readers have. So I always over-simplify. Here goes:

1. Go to the page containing the picture you want and hit your Print Screen key.
2. Use Ctrl + Alt + I to open Irfanview.
3. Use Ctrl + V to paste the picture into it.
4. Use your mouse to draw a rectangle around the picture you want. (Position it at the top left corner of what you want depress the left mouse button and drag diagonally down and to the right until you surround the desired portion. If you mess up, click anywhere OUTSIDE the rectangle and start over.)
5. When you have it right, use Ctrl + Y to crop the picture right in Irfanview.
6. If you want to resize the picture, using Ctrl + R will open Irfanview's Resize/Resample dialog box. Type in 400 or whatever dimension you want in the Width box and make sure the "Preserve Aspect Ratio" box is checked so the picture resizes proportionally. Hit Enter or click OK. (If the picture is the wrong size when you hit Enter, hit Ctrl + Z to restore the original picture and Ctrl + R again to choose a different size.)
7. Click File > Save As and save it wherever and as whatever file type you want.

Not Bad:

1. Print Screen Key
2. Ctrl + Alt + I
3. Ctrl + V
4. Drag
5. Ctrl + Y
6. Ctrl + R, type 400 (or whatever) and hit Enter
7. File > Save As etc.

Then you can Print from Irfanview if you want.

Now a question for you, Dwight: Just how DO you add text to a picture in Irfanview? I’d love to know how to do that. Thanks a million.

Great post MuchWyza! Shortly after posting my reply to NQD above, I realized that I could have just done the crop in IrfanView directly. I had to use the Help to figure out the procedure.

The text portion is actually like cropping. Just use your mouse to draw a box where you want to insert the text, then click Edit/Insert Text into selection. (Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + T).

The text Dialog box opens where you can type in your text. You can put in a copyright symbol, the Date and Time using the buttons. You can also choose the font.

The "Text is transparent" tool is also very nice. We used IrfanView to fill in .pdf forms (saved as image files) and it worked just great for this.

MuchWyza, is the newspaper column you write available on-line? If so, I would love to get the URL to your papers homepage to read your column.

Thanks Dwight. No, unfortunately my columns are in newspapers in print only, not online.

Yet.

Slow to catch up with the 21st century, I guess.

You can see some of my stuff on my website, though.

It hasn't been updated for a while because I don't know how to do that. But there is quite a few of my How-2's from yesteryear there.

Thanks for the Insert Text instructions. Love your stuff.
