Win98, 2nd ed. Yahoo mail system.

On most pictures/cartoons in ones file folder are .jpg and .gif that open right up when sent with E-mail.

I've got a .bmp that doesn't open automatically at the other end.

I went into Google looking as how to change the file extension. I got this: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000428.htm and changed the cartoon file from .bmp to .jpg.

Now my mail system won't even attach that cartoon to my e-mail.

Went to DWIGHT's 'How-To' page. He has stuff on changing file assoc. but nothing on changing file ext.

So someone - pleeese - tell me what to do to get this cartoon to open up on the other end.

p.s., Yahoo - I don't even monkey with Outlook or O.E.

To save you the trouble of swapping & changing. Why not make a Zip file, drop your file in it( leave it as it is)and attach that? Then let the person at the other end worry about how to view it Ok? Normally Windows opens these without any Probs.

How did you change the .bmp to a .jpg?
.bmp is a Windows Paint file to change it to a .jpg you have to open it in Paint and then do a "save as..." and select .jpg.
Bitmap files(.bmp) are usually pretty large - that may be why it won't open. Saving it as a .jpg makes it smaller.

Methinks that you can change a file extension by using irfanview
