I have a draft for a logo for my new business, and I am currious if it is able to be trademarked. It contains an outline of the state of Kentucky. Is this legal/allowed in use of a business logo?

I've tried doing some research on my own, but came up dry. I'm hoping someone knows about this.

If you need to see the logo in question, it is HERE.

Hi NWD:
I personally see no problem with you logo as designed.
There may be another trademark somewhere that's so simular that your application could be refused though.

Here's a link to the US Patent & trademark office (USPTO) with a tutorial about On-Line fileing.

I'ed probably forgo applying for a trademark
at this time and use the $335.00 for
something else. Smile

NWD:
You might have to TWEAK your drawing a bit.
Copied from USPTO:

3. Requirements for Digitized Images

The image must be in .jpg format; scanned at no less than 300 dots per inch and no more than 350 dots per inch, with a length of no less than 250 pixels and no more than 944 pixels, and a width of no less than 250 pixels and no more than 944 pixels. All lines must be clean, sharp and solid, must not be fine or crowded, and must produce a high quality image when copied. 37 C.F.R §2.53(c)

I would first check with your State government. In my state, NH, you need to register the name of your company, a small fee, so any conflicting possibilities are ironed out beforehand. Similar names are not allowed to prevent lawsuits about who may have profited from the advertising of the other company. Start with the office of the KY Secretary of State.
