My fiance has to have surgery tomorrow morning (6:30am EST, 30th December, Bethesda Naval Hospital). It is a complicated procedure, and it will basically decide whether he can ever walk properly again. It also means our plans for him to come over here in a month to live with me have been put on hold indefinitely.

Please pray for him, and his surgeons.

Update:
The op is going to be done under local anestetic (sp?). This is safer, but the reasons it'll be done that way... without going into medical detail, it is not so good. He'll get 30 days convalescent leave afterwards, which isn't near enough. He will be in a lot of pain and he won't be able to walk for most of it, and there is no-one... well he has friends of course but... I should be there. I am his fiance. It is my job... I want to be there. But I live in Ireland, I need to keep my job, we need the money... and there would be no-where for me to stay.

Plus, this will be followed by (probably) two periods of "lesser duty" or some such, of 8 months each. So he'll be in the military at least another 17 months, and we will be apart, seeing eachother for a couple of years holiday each year only.

I am /really/ not having a good year.

Silja, my thoughts have been with you both. Can you update us on how the operation went?

We won't know the real outcome of the surgery (involving both bone and tendon repair) until in about 4-6 months time when he can start to walk without a cast again, but the first check-up late last week showed it is healing well, much better than the previous surgery.

Thank you for all your prayers!
