We were in a car accident on Friday, date night. We just came out from dinner and we were on our way to Wal-Mart. We passed an intersection, there was a 17-year-old turning on to a side street who just turned right into us and kept going. Ed tried to avoid him and swerved, but the kid's reaction time didn't stop him. He turned us all the way in the other direction.
Luckily, Ed's beloved new Honda took a lot of damage. If we hit head-on, someone would have gotten seriously injured. If he hit us in the back, he would have ruptured the gas tank. Ed's left arm is sore, but otherwise intact. *******************************************************8 04-03-06, 11:26 AM clarebear I'm glad to hear that everyone is ok. Its tough being a new driver. Think of the trouble he is in with his parents! Count your blessings VV. It could have been much worse.
04-03-06, 11:29 AM Sarai How scary! I'm so glad you're okay!
04-03-06, 11:48 AM juanruiz Sorry to hear that, VV. Hope the kid had insurance (jr, always the pragmatist).
04-03-06, 12:40 PM babthrower VV, close shave! Now you both need to celebrate being alive by treating yourselves to something really nice!
Whenever we get a reminder of how transitory life is, I think we should do one of the things that we would wish we had done if we didn't. So to speak. Smile

Glad you and yours are ok. 04-03-06, 06:44 PM honilov Sorry to hear that. I'm glad you all are okay.
04-03-06, 07:57 PM Kelleygirl Gosh, I bet that really shook you both up! I totally agree with babthrower and celebrate being okay --- and do something fun together.

Yeah definitely do that. Glad all is ok. I suggest give a small charity specifically on account of this.
04-05-06, 06:56 AM Elexina VV, I am very glad that you are both all right, and I hope, too, that the other driver has insurance and that your rates don't get hiked as a result of this.
I am curious about one thing, though. You stated, "If he hit us in the back, he would have ruptured the gas tank." What kind of car were you driving? How fast were you going? Who told you the gas tank would have ruptured? I only ask because new cars are much safer than that.
I am very glad, though, that no one was seriously injured. Blessed be.
04-05-06, 12:13 PM Georgia85 Elexina, I believe she wrote that they were in a Honda.
I can imagine that was a scary experience for both of you - what a way to end an evening, huh? Thankfully you were not seriously injured. Cars can be replaced...although it will be a bit time consuming. Was it totalled?
04-06-06, 07:30 AM Elexina That's why I was worried -they're usually made a lot better than that. My mother drives a Honda and I'm not comfortable with her driving as it is, so I was concerned about that aspect of the story.
Thank goodness for insurance, though. It will likely be a hassle but, like you said, at least no one was seriously injured.
04-06-06, 07:47 AM juanruiz I've owned Hondas for the last 26 years and have never worried about safety. If there were a problem with gas tanks exploding on impact it would have come out by now.
04-07-06, 08:04 AM VelvetVoice Thanks all for your good wishes. I really don't think the Hondas are unsafe, I just watched a movie where the gas leaked and the car blew up, and I was adding drama to the story. Hondas are actually very safe.
Both insurance companies have looked at the damage, so it will probably take about three weeks or so to fix it. But it will never be the same, it was the first new car we ever owned.
Clarebear: I have no sympathy for the kid. He had his mind on his 15-year-old girlfriend in her mother's car. He said we were speeding, and then said he didn't see us. He got a ticket, and I hope he gets in trouble with both sets of parents.
Bab: I always think about my future and the road not taken, it is always the cause of unhappiness for me. I do my damnest to live in the present with optimism.
Tsaeb: My pastor said the same thing. Very astute for you to notice that!
Georgia: You bet! My evening ended abruptly, and that was the first thing I thought of after the accident. Maybe we should order in tonight, I can't wait much longer.
04-07-06, 09:10 AM juanruiz Well, if he got cited then for insurance purposes his company should have to pay for your repairs.
