I am praying constantly for everyone effected by hurricane Katrina.

Have all our members been accounted for?

Are all loved ones ok?

To the best of my knowledge, no one has heard from Texan-in-Exile and Angelacc. Tie lives in southern Alabama, and Angela lives in southern Mississippi., I think. Tie lives near the coast.

I'm keeping all of them in my prayers.

Oh dear, I had forgotten where they lived. I'll try to e-mail them and see if I get a response.

Today I heard from a previous co-worker who quit BellSouth to go work for a bank in New Orleans. He and his family evacuated in time and are staying (temporarily/permanently?) at her sister's. But he took his laptop with him and is working at keeping the bank's website up and functional.

So if TIE and Angela had to evacuate maybe they have some way to check e-mails. Won't hurt to try at least.

Even before the storm, Angela had very little internet access. At least the last time I heard from her. It was via her cell phone and text messaging. I spoke to her briefly a few months ago, but I don't think she was in her hometown anymore.

She moved quite a bit over the last year or so.

Apparently so Shel...all of the e-mail addresses I have for her came back to me as invalid accounts. I'm still waiting to hear from TIE.

My thoughts are with all of the victims. The news stories are horrible...
There is lots we can do to help, though. If you live in the area and want to offer a bed or couch to a newly-homeless person, you can sign up at MoveOn's Hurricane Housing site.
If you want to donate blood, now is the time! The Red Cross also needs your money.
The Humane Society of the United States is launching emergency disaster relief programs and will gladly accept any donations (blankets and food, as well as money, I believe).
The Center for Inquiry has launched a major fund drive through the Secular Humanist Aid and Relief Effort.

Here is a link to a New York Times article about different relief agencies and opportunities.

Finally, tonight at 8:30 (your time, whatever that may be), there will be a moment to raise positive energy to direct to the places affected. You don't have to go anywhere or do anything special for this event, just do whatever it is you would do to send helpful healing thoughts and energies toward the Katrina victims. For more information on this, there is a Yahoo group.

Blessed be.

I think Saint Dan is from Southern Louisianna, right? Or maybe it's Northern?

Well we can all rest easily about one of our fellow enthusists.

I just heard back from TIE. She appreciates our concern and writes:

"Fortunately, we had no damage to our house, although many of our neighbors did. I figure we were truly blessed throughout this thing! It's still hard to believe the destruction to New Orleans and the Mississippi Coast!"

Unfortunately, way to contact Angela and Dan's e-mail address is on my office computer and I will be on vacation next week and have no way to access it. He just e-mailed me the other week and I believe the address was different from what is posted on his AP profile.

I have no way to contact Angela anymore either. When she was having to move, she put me and another person in charge of her skin cancer site, so I posted there to see if anyone had heard from her.

Not a word.

Thanks for the update Methos.

And Saint Dan is accounted for as well. From a message I received from him and slightly edited for privacy issues:

"Yes, I and all of my family are fine. I only had to clean up small branches from my yard and the old lady that lives behind me. We were without electricity for maybe 10 hrs. and I was at work for 8 of those. My parents, and my inlaws were without lights for a couple of days but again just branches and leaves.

I worked at LSU and at the hospital(s) in Baton Rouge with the evacuees and I have some strong opinions concerning the whole affair."

Can't wait to read what he has to post!
