A friend asked me to make her a Deal or No Deal Calculator in MS Excel. At first I thought it would be simple, but it turns out that I really don't know the equation(s) that the Banker uses when arriving at his 'deal'. It is not just the mean of the remaining values. Can anyone help?

Kendor, what figure is that you are illustrating in the picture? Is this some element of risk in the American version? Here (Britain) we only get a middle-aged bloke with a beard and the contestants. In France we have a compere who has all the contestants doing party pieces but that's all.

PS Why would the banker just use equations? If 'he' has any sense he'll use psychology as well as some probability maths. Bookmakers do that.

I'm pretty sure that just calculates the mean of the remaining cases, or the Expected Value.






I thought there may be other calculations made by the Banker using probabilities and such.

I spent some time trying to calculate but found no convenient answer. There is obviously some multiplier at work. I am interested now and I want to figure it out now... maybe over this weekend I'll figure it out. The online version must use math to calculate the offer so it can't simply be psychology.
