1 inch is equal to about 2.54 cm, so a square measuring 1 inch x 1 inch (for a total area of 1 square inch) is the same thing as a square measuring 2.54 cm x 2.54 cm (for a total area of 6.54 square cm). So, 1 square inch = 6.54 square cm, or dividing each side by 6.54 gives:

0.15 square inches = 1 square cm

Pb,
well,
just for future references: whenever converting from a bigger value to a smaller unit, DIVIDE
&
whenever changing amount to a relatively larger unit, MULTIPLY
by the specific ratio.

This cat here will tell you of almost all the conversions regarding Maths and more , from which I learnt that an inch=2.540 centimeters.

Hmn.......the conversion case ain't as simple here, however. Whenever a power comes in
such as x3 or like you mentioned, (1")2
then we divide (or multiply) as many times as the number up there.
Your problem equals to 0.1550 as
1/[(2.4)(2.54)] = 0.15500031 etc,etc

WinkGot it?

Going the other way...

1 centimeter = .3937 inches

(1 centimeter)2 = (.3937 inches)2
(.3937 inches)2 = .3937" x .3937"
= .155 in2

For online conversions, try onlineconversion.com.

Note that these are rounded off. Hope this helps.

Gee,
Pb, you embarrass me!
I tried to be as straight forward in my answering as my female-chatting-glands would allow me to.

Well, I'll just get to the jist of it.
The rule to conversions is,
considering this case, when transforming from a bigger unit (i.e. inch) to a smaller one (i.e. centimeter) we have to divide.

However,
you gave the example of squaring one inch
(which I displayed as 1"2 where " stands for 'inch'; okay?)

When we square something, Pb, it means multiplying it twice
(e.g. 32= 3x3= 9, umn, I hope you understand atleast this much)
so, when we have to do conversions of squares,
we multiply twice.
However, there is yet another twist here.
As this is a conversion to a relatively smaller unit,
we are dividing
so, we divide twice! Viola!

Simple now? (I hope!)

Well,
the KAOS in the Cat's mask,
(or that's what it seemed to me initially atleast)

it is not directly pertaining to your Question
but is just a list of
aaaahmn,
conversions
which I thought you might've found useful for future references.

Cheerios,
