On my Free Cell game I have won 3600 of the 4717 games I have played for a 76% plus winning percentage. If I was to never lose another game, how many consecutve wins would it take me to get to 90%? Is there some sort of formula that I can use to figure it out? Thank you in advance.--R

Yes, there is a formula.

Let x be the number of consecutive games you have to win. Then the total number of wins will be 3600+x, and the total number of games played will be 4717+x. But 3600+x is to come out as 90% of 4717+x. The formula you need, then, is

3600+x = 90%(4717+x), or 3600+x = 9/10(4717+x)

Multiply both sides of the second equation above by 10 to get

36000+10x = 9(4717+x), or 36000 +10x = 42453+9x.

Subtract 9x from both sides and 36000 from both sides to get

x = 6453

This is a distressingly large number of games left to win in a row, isn't it? But it is right. To check it, add 6453 to 3600 to get 10,053. Add the same number to 4717 to get 11,170. Divide the first by the second, and you see that the ratio is .9, or that the first is 90% of the second. eek

R,

I too agree that maiku's ans was "awesome".
However,
just giving a shot
and checking if I can come up with some alternate way of handling this.
(as I think it is a, well, not cute but...aaaah, uhmn, well.......a Question which only an observant, "curius" person could come up with)

Though, I guess this was the simplest way to answer so I better keep my hands off. ...

However,
be WARNED
if you lose even three games more,
the amount of games to be won would increase from 6453 to 6480 in order to achieve your goal of 90%.
(My take: just clear off the Stats and start anew Man! this way it would be possible to keep your target at 100% )

Either that, or lower your expectations-it's a lot harder than it sounds to win 90% of your games in Freecell.

Simpler than Maiku’s answer:
You’ve lost 1,117 games. To get your total up to 90%, this has to be 10% of the total. So, the total has to be 11,170. So, the answer is 11,170 – 4,717 = 6,453.
Did it in me ’ed, guv! smile
