However, in light of the many different versions of UBB code currently used in this and other on-line forums, and their varying degrees of compatibility with HTML, I found a page that might be more helpful for people posting in this and other math forums:
So far, in this forum (Answerpool Mathematics), I've found that the UBB code can display any WGL4 character using the character entity reference. (WGL4 is a character set that includes many of the characters in the HTML Symbol font, and the character entity references are simple abbreviated names for the characters. This information is listed in the above link.)
In other words, in the second link above, any character that says "WGL4" in the last column can be used in this forum. Just copy and paste the code in the "Character entity" column in your post. For example, to make the ± symbol just copy and paste ± in your post. This should be helpful for anyone who wants to make an unusual symbol like an integral sign or a greek letter and doesn't know how.
Note: As of this post, all the HTML code in the first link and the WGL4 characters in the second link both seem to work in this forum. However, I've had intermittent results with the HTML code in the past, and the WGL4 characters seem to be generally more reliable in this and other forums that use UBB.
