My skin is very sensitive to many types of metal. I have to buy the special ear rings, and most necklaces make me break out. I could deal with that, but now I'm breaking out because of the little metal rivets inside my jeans that touch my skin! I've tried putting clear nail polish on them and I've tried using tapes and other means to keep them from touching my skin, but nothing works! I break out in a rash wherever they touch my skin. The rash lasts for months, and itch cream makes it burn. The only thing I have found to relieve the itching is to put ice on the area. It's really annoying but I can't give up wearing jeans... there's no way.

I know I probably need to go to a dermatologist, but does anyone know if there's anything they can do for this? Is there such thing as a med that will prevent this from happening or decrease my skin's sensitivity? Thanks!

Nothing can change your skins sensitivity to metals. Why not hand sew tiny cloth patches over the metal in the jeans? It would be a lot of work but I can't think of anything else that would help.

I've thought about that, and I guess that's what I'll have to do. It will definately be a pain, but if there's nothing else that can be done, I refuse to give up my jeans lol. Maybe in the future some genius will come up with a remedy for this problem.

Thanks for your input, I appreciate it!

I was just thinking of those iron on patches. Can you cut one up to a size that works for you and do that instead of sewing?

Hmmm... now I see that you've tried the clear nail polish. That has always worked for me.

Your family doctor should be able to prescribe some topical steroid creme for the effects. No real need to go see a dermatologist unless you're not comfortable with your family doctor's advice.

You could look into a more plastic type nail polish... it's always worked for me. For earings they do make plastic covers for the posts.
