as soon as i lay down to sleep, my sinuses get all stuffed up and i cannot breath out of my nose. then in the morning it all drains into my throat and it feels as if it lands into a nook there and i can´t swallow it, i can only cough it up (every morning). i have been to the doctor for this, and she thinks it´s a dust allergy and medications only help temporarily. (the dust, i think, is mostly what lands on my bed, it often tickes my throat at night, even though i cover the bed completely.)
i am not such a fan of using nose sprays long-term. it is very irritating. i drink a lot of water everyday hoping that it will hydrate my sinuses enough, but it doesn´t seem to help any.
any other suggestions?

p.s. i don´t smoke.

Hassia, one partial way to reduce the unable to breathe feeling at night is a product I used when I was pregnant and had a lot of edema (fluids)in my tissues. I found it at Walmart and it is a sort of cross or "T" shaped adhesived device that actually gets applied to a clean face and nose each night. It did help me a great deal and reduced my snoring caused from the edema also.

Athletes use this also to flare their nares to increase the space through which oxygen can pass.

Here is a website that shows the company who makes them.

I use Nasacort AQ it is a prescription medication. It doesn't burn but you have to use daily during the allergy season. You can't just do a puff when you nose is stuffed up and expect it to work. That is true on most allergy medications. I would also suggest a pseudophed before you go to bed my son take a 12 hour one and when he wakes up his nose is not stuffy.

For dust mites or just dust try and cove up your bed with a bed spread that you take off before you get in bed. They make pillow protectors for allergy suffers also. I have never tried them but I have seen them in stores.

Sherasi idea sounds good to. Let us know if it helps. Good luck.

I tried those BreatheRight things - what a joke! I washed and dried my face as instructed, put the thing on and it popped right back off. I could not get it to stick and when it did, it didn't work, wasn't strong enough to pull anything apart. Naturally, I lost the receipt so couldn't even take them back.

I tried "psuedophed" (Sudafed) too, and it did nothing. The only thing that helped me was plain old benedryl.
