Yesterday a hummingbird got caught in the window in my garage and wore itself out, my son heard the noise and saw the bird fall to the floor. He found it and picked it up, it was still alive but not moving at all. we folded its wings back and let it rest. A lot of the feathers on the belly were gone, and tthe bead skin was pulled back. It had blood coming from the beak too. It just laid there and lets us stroke it then I made up some nectar and put it in a medicine cup, dipped the beak into it a few times and the bird perked up, after about 10 minutes of the "force" feedings it flew away to a near by tree, I keep watching my feeder and hope it comes back and is doing well.

We took some pictures, since this occasion is so very rare to actually see one so close and personal. I just thought I would share our "save a bird" day adventure, since I was completely astonished that everything worked out and I actually got to hold and pet a hummingbird!

hey! That's awesome, it's cool to say you got to do that. It's weird how one second, your helping a hummingbird live, the next second your killing a spider or ants. I just hate killing even insects (except earwigs and mosquitos) But anyway, I'm sure the hummingbird is greatful in it's own little way!

Once I was walking down by our river, and spotted a little screech owl on a branch just at eye level, eyes wide open. I got up real close (about 2 feet) and looked him right in the eyes for about 10 minutes. Then I told him, "Stay here" and ran back up to the house to get my camera. When I got back he was still there. I took about 8 pictures of him, but it turned out there was no film in the camera. Sheesh. Catty (who distrusts anything with more than one moving part) mad mad mad

Catty, you are so funny!
That is really cool, about holding the 'Hummer. I had a dream that I was sitting on the top portion of a picnic table, talking and gesturing with my hands. In the dream, I stuck out my arm and was hit in the hand by a zooming 'Hummer. What the heck did that mean?
