I have a 2 years old male cockatiel named "Banjo". It must be breadind time 'cause he's been a pest lately (screeching sounds).I installed a mirror outside it's cage (the kind you buy at pet stores)it comes with a plastic stand. He's looking at itself with a bizarre rituel, and he's kinda rubbing itself on the plastic stand.Any recommandations?

I did quite a bit of reading on cockatiel behavior and learned that your question is a common one. Most cockatiel owners say there isn’t much you can do about his behavior. Many professional cockatiel breeders frown on the use of mirrors, because often mirrors create more behavioral problems than solve. Some suggest a mate but there is no guarantee that a mate will help with this. She may not get along with him and vise versa.

Thanks for your answer Piggins.I put Banjo with a female cockatiel for 24 hours and they just totally ignored themselves, in fact they were keeping a broad distance from each other.I bought a book on cockatiel and if I find something worthed to be shared ,I will. Smile
