Hello! Smile A friend of mine got a female parakeet, and says that she is aggressive. From doing searches on the internet, I have seen sites say that females can be aggressive...but, they don't say what you can do about it or what causes them to be that way. Does anyone know why they're that way? Is there anything you can do about it?
Any suggestions are welcome. I want to try and help my friend with her bird.
Thank you! Smile

Sorry Trinity; I've ignored this as I thought you meant 'parakeet' when you meant 'parakeet' Big Grin

The small cagebird of Australian origin, which can be taught to talk is known as a budgerigar here ( a corruption of its aboriginal name)Is this what you mean?

Right Q1 Are the females aggressive ? Yes, quite often .Q2 Are they all like that ? No. It appears to be entirely individual in normal circumstances; some are, some are not and there are degrees in between Q3 What can you do about it ? Nothing but it is not a problem , is it, if the hen is kept on her own ? When you are breeding them or just keeping several birds together the rule can only be to make certain that they have adequate space and that the causes of squabbling/ aggression are not there. So it means a big excess of nest boxes for example. However it seems that in the end separation is the only cure if it still arises.

If the bird is attacking you rather than other birds then, well, we are defeated over here.Sorry ! Frown

[ If you mean a parakeet of a different kind; we call other, usually larger birds, originating elsewhere, this; then I can probably find someone here for that too]

Thank you, FredPuli, for your reply. Smile I mean "parakeet" as in a small bird that's either blue or green in color and is also known as a "budgie". Smile
