Ok, I just got a parakeet last sunday... It died last night due to broken legs my mother actidentally inflicted it with... When I get a new one, which sex should it be? I am just wondering the differences of how they act. If anyone whom knows anything about parakeets would like to reply, please do.

I would recommend buying two parakeets. A female and a male. If you buy just one, you'll have to buy lots of toys for it and it still might be lonely. If you have two you wont need to have toys. what ever you choose -buy a little birdhouse if you don't have one already...

We used to have parakeets and they are great pets. The only thing bad about having two of them is that if you do this they may not get attached to you. They tend to want to stay together and not apart. They do better I found anyhow with our own to teach them things like talking and stuff if you spend lots of time with them. I used to have a parakeet that would play cards with me when i was younger. He would say some words and followed me everywhere. Then i made a mistake and bought him a mirror. After that he woudn't talk to me at all or play he stayed in front of his mirror all day long talking to "his friend". So it just really depends on what you want to do.
