We have had our parakeet for over 8 years. He lives in a very large cage and is very active and eats well. He started chewing on the plastic of the bottom grate of the cage and now he can't sing . He acts like there is something stuck in his mouth, he swallos and is then fine. We are wondering what we can do besides the vet, as we are retired and on a fixed income. Thanks for any help!

Is there a mirror in his cage? Male parakeets often stop singing when there is a mirror in their cage.

Will try that, but he tries to chirp and acts like something is caught in his throat. Thanks for the help.
