We have an adorable little Love Bird (Penny) that is super friendly and affectionate. Lately, she has been laying eggs way past the number we have seen in the past and has a pre-occupation with nest building. It is to the point where she is losing weight and we are fearful for her health. I have looked in several books available at pet supply stores etc but can't sem to find any information on the subject. We have installed new toys, we always take her out of her cage so that she can exercise and spend time with family members. She love to have her head scratched and stay on your shoulder while you are doing chores around the house. She seems to have bonded with our female Pug and they play whenever they get thr chance. We have even moved her cage to our family room so that she will have us in sight even more so now to try to distract her. any information you can provide will be appreciated.

Hi , I too have a lovebird that did this. It took her two weeks and half to lay 5 eggs. She was very mean during this time to . If you put your hand in her cage , she would nail you everytime. I let her have them for about 2 wks.then took them away. She was fine. You need to give her boiled eggs, and take the egg shell and crack real fine, she will need the calcium from this. Mine started laying cause she was in the dining room and we stayed up watching tv till late, and she was getting too much light. Arent' love bird wonderful. I also have a cockitel named Lacey, and love bird is chloe. goodluck. seeya.
