Hi Kelly:
Thanks for the congrats on my 80th birthday.
You asked who some of my favorite blues artists were.Bearing in mind my age ,I would include B.B.King,Big Joe Turner,Eddie'Cleanhead " Vinson and Mr.Five By Five[Little Jimmy Rushing].
Big Joe Turner and Jimmy Rushing were popular back in the 40's."Cleanhead" Vinson recorded in the 50's and 60's.B.B.King is still recording today.
Back in the twenties Bessie Smith ruled the roost along with Mamie Smith,Louis Armstrong played trumpet on many of their recordings.
In the twenties the records were not listed as Blues records in the recording companies catalogs...instead there were listed as Race records.
Some of the Blues artists had really wild names such as Blind Lemon Jefferson and Petey Wheatstraw[The Devil's Son In Law].

Blues will never die in my opinion.Every Jazz player I know loves to play the Blues !!!

Great hearing from you, Hippolips! Wow, you mentioned some of the greatest in blues. Some of my favorites would have to include R.L. Burnside, Ruth Brown, Clarence Gatemouth Brown, Buddy Guy----saw Eddie "The Chief" Clearwater last time we were in Chicago (the best place to find blues). Yeah, then for me, some of the oldtimers like Robert Johnson and Big Mama Thornton. Always love to hear B.B. Hope that you had a really terrific birthday and glad that Fuse got that thread going.

Kelleygirl{finally spelled your name right]:
I almost forgot my father's favorite blues group...the Harlem Hamfats and their big blues hit..."Stick out your can, here comes the garbage man".
This is not a put on...that was the actual name of the tune!
Sidenote:You like Robert Johnson...legend has it that offered to sell his soul to the Devil if he could become a great blues guitar player.Don't know if this one is true or not.

"Stick out your can, here comes the garbage man"....very unique title, with a little twist of humor. Smile

Wouldn't you love to hear that one, Honilov?

Yeah, Hippolips, I've hear the legend of Johnson selling his soul to the devil --- who knows. Don't worry about the spelling of the name --- no big deal. Cool
