Hey, I'm trying to find info on my grandfather; he died before S.S.I.#'s were available and his birth certificate was destroyed in a fire at city hall in Yonkers, NY --- I've already tried that route. He was, however, a member of the U.S. army from the time, we think, he was 17. He fought in the Boxer Rebellion and lived in the Philippines for a time (where my dad was born). Anyway, does anyone know where one starts to find genealogy info from the U.S. Army? I have no clue where to begin. Any help would be appreciated and thanks, guys.

No need to put this on the unanswered list. Did a lot more work on this. I found that I had to fill out a request for "National Archives Order for copies of Military Service Records". I just got them in the mail and hopefully this will work. This is for any military service pre-dating World War 1 in case anyone is interested. If they do locate any info, however, there is a charge of $17.

That sounds like a great "service" .. if you will excuse the pun!
