I'm doing our family genealogy - in fact, on both sides! On my dad's side, then I found out that we are a great, great, great, great, etc. to Charlemagne, a Roman emporer - I think. Also that we are great, etc. of one of Sir Francis Drake's brothers. big grin
Also that a city in Texas - Calvert - was named after one of my ancestors. There is also a city in Canada named after one of my ancestors on my mom's side, too. cool

Anyone else got any famous stuff like that to brag about? cool

Sargeant York (WW I hero) was an in-law of one of my cousins in Georgia on my mother's side.

I hate to put a dampener on your exuberance, but all families have traditions of being related to famous people. Mahal's Sgt York is recent enough to be true, but most are just legends which do not stand up to real research.

These stories may be true, but please, as a piece of general advice, take them with a very large pinch of salt.

EWood, none of that stuff I just put down was passed in the family: I FOUND IT OUT MYSELF WHEN I WAS DOING OUR FAMILY TREES.

I don't have anybody that's confirmed to be famous in my family tree. There are indications that I may be related to Edgar Lee Masters, the author of Spoon River Anthology, but nothing has been confirmed.

I may also be related to Chubby from the Little Rascals, but we are having trouble confirming it because it's through a branch of the family that we have been unable to research.

I do have a couple of third great grandfathers that were named after U.S. Presidents:) Andrew Jackson Masters and George Washington Davis. Both fought for the North in the Civil War.

In tracing back my dad's family, I was pleasantly surprised to find a direct link to George Douglas, 13th Earl of Morton, married to Francis Adderley. From there on back, the Douglas family is well documented. A son came to the colonies in the 1700's.

On my mother's side of the family, it traces back to Jacob Showalter/Catherine Huffman and the mennonite immigration from the Palatinate region of Germany in the 1700's.
