My cousin had recently found census info. for Detroit Mi. circa. 1920. He is ill now and I am trying to find the same on my own. I am only getting sites that want a hefty fee to join. Does any one know where I could access this info. for free ? The person I'm trying to find is John Fred O'Hara. He died in detroit in 1935/1936 at age 37/38. He was my grandfather. My cousin was able to find out address, members of household, renters, etc. I would like to do the same. Thanks for reading and hopefully responding.. -db-.. cleve. ohio

Hi voodoodougie. Welcome to AnswerPool. Smile

I can't find a John Fred O'Hara who died in Michigan. I do see an OHARA, JOHN F 74 born in 1916. That is all the information I can find without paying. I did, however, find a Madeline O'Hara from Hamlin, OH. June 28, 1924 to Jan 20, 2004. You may be able to find some more info here: The Death Index (The initial preview is free)

In Michigan we have a Burton Center located in the Detroit Public Library. It is FULL of genealogy records. They even have an online data base BUT you need a library card. (sorry but I don't have one there)

You could call the Burton Center and ask if they can help you. They are very nice and will be able to guide you in the right direction.

You are very welcome! You may be able to go to YOUR local library and find Michigan obituaries on microfilm. It is worth a try.

I also found another site that may be of interest to you.
