What is the fifference between a second cousin and a first cousin once removed?

I was at my family reunion yesterday and none of us well educated people could remember what the difference is.

For instance, what is my first cousins daughter to me?

Your first cousin's daughter is YOUR first cousin, once removed. Your daughter (if you have one) and your first cousin's daughter would be second cousins.

If your first cousin, once removed, has a child -- that child will be your first cousin, TWICE removed...and so on.

Hope this helps!

I'd never heard of double cousins, that's interesting!
