I am providing a link to the official site of my favorite local short track racing spot and would like to see links to the tracks y'all frequent. http://www.manzanitaspeedway.com/ +++++++++++++++ 06-10-02, 03:52 PM teeceeum Manzanita is one of the most exciting dirt tracks in the country. I've never personally visited, but I've watched a little Thunder on TV from there.
Here is the local track where the careers of Darrell Waltrip, Sterling Marlin, Jeremy Mayfield, David Green, Jeff Green, Bobby Hamilton, Jr. & Sr., and, indeed, Marty Robbins got started. I'm sure there are a few that I've left out. I got to know Earnhardt, Jr. fairly well at this old racetrack. (That is the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in the pictures on the right. The track's lease was just purchased from Dover Downs Entertainment and they don't have their new web site up yet. Bummer.)
This track is not exacly local (150 miles away) but it bills itself as "The World's Fastest 5/8 Mile Dirt Track" and I believe it is. The turns have some serious banking built into them. It was featured in a Discovery Channel or A&E series called The Competition which highlighted off-the-beaten-track events. It is located hard against I-40. Look to your left about 25 miles before you reach Knoxville, TN.
We don't have much in the way of midgets or sprints here, although we used to and I definitely enjoy them. In fact, I even did a little quarter midget and midget racing myself.
06-10-02, 07:32 PM Walks On Water Here is my favorite almost in my back yard. As the announcers call it "The twisting, Turning road course in the rolling hills of central Ohio."
Next televised race should be The American LeManns Series around the June 30 weekend.
06-11-02, 02:14 PM dogspit Thanks to ye' both for some quality links. Just not too many fans of old fashioned racing left. To me the short dirt tracks around the country are just the most incredible racing. Midget racing on a Saturday night, man oh man.
06-11-02, 10:32 PM Bibc14 Dog, I will watch any kind of racing I am able to, and I enjoy watching anything that has to do with dirt, midgit cars, harleys...
I will also watch World Rally if I see it on speedvision when I am flipping through the channels,
but the only thing that is really part of my absolute required watching is American LeMans, LeMans, and others like it. There is just so much going on, so many different kinds of cars, different classes, different speeds, its great!
