Diamond Enthusiast Winner, AP's First Annual Chili Cook-off

I was so pleased to see Jeff Gordon tie Dale Earnhardt for 6th on the all-time win list for WInston / Nextel Cup racing with 76, but so mortified to see fans in my hometown pelting the track and his car with beers and trash for doing nothing more than paying tribute to a great racer in his own way. Now this week Gordon wins again and another town's lowlifes throw trash out onto the track. Is this the essence of NASCAR fans today ?
This is the essence of Dale Jr. NASCAR fans. They can't seem to understand that there are other drivers out there with actual talent. I was horrified to see that as well -but please to hear Dale Jr. admonish the fans. Unfortunately, it happened again this week. But I was thrilled to see Jeff Gordon surpass Earnhardt's record this week, just because of how the idiots reacted last week. It's really sad, and it just reaffirms the opinions that the rest of the world seems to hold about NASCAR and NASCAR fans -that we are a bunch of vandalizing know-nothing rednecks. Once again, I was glad to see the drivers, including Dale Jr., express their displeasure, and to hear that track officials were arresting people. Hopefully a night in jail will reawaken some brain cells in these folk.
