I DID NOT watch 6 cars go round and round because the F-1 rules would not let the other teams change there "Possibly" un-safe tires. I think this was a low blow by the F-1 rules committee.
They should have given “ALL” the opportunity to change tires before the race start. That way, it would have given all equal chance.
In my race officiating, I have stopped a race to allow teams to change tires. This was mostly do to weather. Rain and racing slicks don’t mix to well. I allowed all teams a chance to change to rains. (Rain tires) ++++++++++ 06-20-05, 02:23 PM FredPuli Agreed. It was a nonsense. What harm would be done by allowing Michelin to submit safer tyres than those planned and which were proving defective? Of course there is a rule about tyre switching but this case is not one where the switch would be to gain any advantage denied to other teams, or, rather, the other team, Ferrari. Nobody else was affected in the championship (though someone got a podium place which they would never have got otherwise Big Grin)
Failing that, stick in a chicane to slow the circuit.Apparently Ferrari objected and for some reason the FIA went along with that
06-20-05, 04:19 PM bedstor They should have retained the old tyre change "in the Pits " method at least they would have a chance to change to a more suitable compound tyre By the way ....... What is the Rule if its a dry Qualifying But a Wet race ? and they are using the tyres from the Previous race? And in the previous Grand Prix (because of the "Rule") a driver was forced to drive with a heavily "Flat spotted" tyre for a possible 3rd place and it self disintegrated The driver and car were also subjected to increasingly violent vibration for several laps ( Millions of TV viewers saw it on the cars camera),ended up in the "Gravel Trap" The FIA have ignored the safety and Common sense "policy" it used to Preach after several bad crashes in which death and serious injury occurred. If I had to race I'd have walked out too, until common sense has prevailed and they reverted to a safer system?

Dry Qualifying but Wet Race? They can change the tires before the race begins, an some basic settings. During the race, in changing conditions (like today at Spa) they can change tires while they refuel.
Wet Qualifying but Dry Race? See above.
A flatspotted tire can now be changed without incurring any penalty.
Still, these rules were meant to help the sport, but all they've done is hurt it.
Can't change tires and refuel while they race? Bull
One engine per two race rule? Bull. Why penalize a driver for something the engine company did wrong?
Go back to the good old days.
