What, nothing? No posts at all? It’s down to me? And oh, do I have thoughts… If Tony Stewart keeps this up, he’ll win the championship. It would have been nice to see Mark Martin get his first 500 win -especially as he’s just out of Rousch cars. That would be mud in the eye. Our household is happy with the Harvick win -anything’s better than the Busch brothers, right?

Me I'm happy so long as a Toyota wins. Be good to see a top American car winning , after all Wink Never mind: apparently the winner was in a Chevrolet. Is that American?

Ooh, don’t say that too loud in front of too many rabid NASCAR fans, Fred. After all, don’t you know that Toyota is the devil???
Funny story: we bought a Pontiac Vibe last year, whichis the same thing as the Toyota Matrix, but we had to get the Pontiac because it’s American, right? Well, the Vibe is actually made in Canada while the Matrix is made in California.
Anyway, by the time NASCAR gets done with them they’re not really Fords or Dodges or anything anymore, just hulks of metal that fit the specifications. Besides, aren’t we supposed to be encouraging “diversity” in the sport and everything? Wink

Of course I did ! (Why do you think I said that ? Big Grin ) Of course, in a sense, Toyota cars are American in that Toyota employs 386,000 Americans but that's not quite the same, is it? Indeed the Camry, on which the NASCAR vehicle is based, is made only in the USA , being designed for that local market.

And NASCAR machines bear even less resemblance to the onroad product of the manufacturer than rally cars do to their supposed equivalent. You can, in theory, buy the rally model of a Lancia or a Toyota because the makers are obliged to sell a given number of that specification to the general public in order to qualify the car for rallying. You could drive such a car anywhere in town, not just sideways at 120 mph on some mountain forest track. NASCAR machines would hardly be suitable for a run to the shopping mall ( especially if driven in NASCAR style !) Big Grin

Oh believe me, I know. That's why the whole anti-Toyota argument is pretty silly.

I have Jeff Burton this year in our yearly pool for the cup; had Jimmy Johnson last year and hope to repeat; We have a weekly random drawing for our Nascar pool, so anyone can win in any week (I was lucky last year hit a few times on the weekly).
