I'm interested in information on the procedure for producing a certificate of authenticity -- let's say for an instruction manual that is neither a collectible or limited edition.

Other than creating a customized document tailored to the product, is a particular license required? Are there other requirements?

(I've already spent a bit of time Googling this one myself along with the help of a fellow enthusiast without much success. If specific references/links could be provided would be of particular interest. Thanks in advance!)

Who is certifying that the item is authentic?

Hi Dorian!

Answer: a business. Does this make a difference?

Hi, Cuzzin Miranndy!

It seems to me that the certifying agent is the one to make up such a document, perhaps with some sort of documentation of any industy-wide organization it belongs to that would lend credibility to it. While I can't think of an example using an instruction manual, think of a certificate one would get with a diamond ring.

(By the way, how is Uncle Otis' gout? Did he ever find out who stole his prize sow, Lulabelle?)

Dorian,

Thanks ever so much for lending your knowledge to this curiosity and your prompt reply!

(By the way Uncle O is right as rain, though he is still sore at the loss of Lula. But how long can a 3-legged, blind sow with a birthmark in the shape of Texas remain hidden? Also, I wasn't in the know that our family was in the gemstone biz... I'll keep that in mind when you're ready to propose!)
