I posted this News. earlier on a UK forum as regards a cool Google Maps upgrade coming in a few weeks...
Google gets a New Eye...Wave! Big Grin

And it has raised a Question

They say this satellite alone will be Recording the Equivalent of the area of the State of Delaware in a Day!
So Maths people How many "Delawares" can you Fit on a Global area? And we'll have an estimate of how many days the GeoEye Satellite could "see"(In theory) the entire Planet before repeating the exercise

Ummm.
Earth's surface area: 196,935,000 square miles
Delaware's ,, ,, : 2,489 square miles

Divide = 79,122,137

Of course they're not mapping the sea so... Confused (Land area is about 30 per cent of the total, so the relevant answer is 'no more than' three tenths of that figure)

Even though they may be mapping an area "equivalent to that of the state of Delaware, I doubt they're mappimg the state of Delaware or any thing other than a narrow band the satellite "sees" in any given day. So I think Freds first figure is probably right; it's the number of days it would take to map the surface of the globe - even though it maight contain large expanses of featureless ocean surfaces. IMHO.

Thanks Fred, it is still a silly Number value I get a result of 65 years Mad (and thats the whole land mass only)
Perhaps they should Map(as a Priority) those Populated areas missed by the 1st generation Flyby and B)If the 2 overlap they can both be viewed when zoomed in on(and the changes in landscape(if any?) can be noted)?
I have noted some Principal Rural towns in Ireland & Scotland been missed by both Live Maps and Google Maps, and the roadmaps provided have not been of the Best quality especially in the Irish Republic. Mad

And Fred put a comma where there ought to be a decimal. It should read 79,122.137 days.

Still, 261 years does seem rather a long time to wait for mapping results! Let alone 261,000 years ! Wink
