Not sure if this is the right place to post, but herego's...
I've been looking all over and I can't seem to find where the symbol for a woman (you know, the circle with the cross at the bottom) came from. I want to know what it means, and why is it that, why do guy's have the arrow on the "corner" of a circle for their sign?

From what I've heard they're astrological signs and the female sign represents passivity and the male symbol, activity or something. How close am I? Anybody?

I seem to remember from the hinterlands of my mind I heard this long ago: The symbol for a man represents a spear and shield (symbolic of a warrior) and the woman's represents a mirror and comb. Don't know when or where I heard that, though.

Mars, as the god of war, has the arrow as a symbol. There may be a phallic allusion also. The mirror of Venus is a symbol of her beauty, the Greek idea of outward appearance being a reflection of inward appearance.
